The Molecular Structure Analysis Group
was involved in development of methods of protein crystallography in the Czech research environment. The group applies methods of 3D crystal structure determination on bio-macromolecular and organic systems and computational approaches in protein-protein and protein-ligand studies. The research areas include structure determination and structure-function studies of many systems e.g. antiretroviral drug design (HIV protease inhibition), immunoglobulins, complex enzymes from extremophiles (cold-active β-galactosidase), systematic studies on protein surface salvation, structural analysis of natural killer cell receptors etc.
Technologies in use: macromolecular sample characterization by dynamic light scattering, MALDI and other techniques, standard crystallization methods for protein-based systems at variable temperature, crystal imaging, crystal structure determination from organics to large protein structures with use of data from both in house and synchrotron radiation sources, systematic exploitation of structural databases including CSD, Isostar, Relibase and other web-based services, LIMS.
